New product — USB Parallel Port

The new USB to parallel port adaptor allows you to connect Pico parallel port products to the USB port of a PC. This frees up your parallel port for printing and makes it easier to use multiple devices on the same PC.

This new adaptor, together with our USB to Serial port adaptor (released last year) means that all of our products are now USB compatible.

Dynamic Web Pages — Publish Data Live on the Web

The latest release of EnviroMon software allows data (both graphs, raw data and alarm status) to be displayed live on a web site.

Applications for this technology fall into two areas. The first is allowing your customers to view data, for example a holiday resort or swimming pool may wish to publish graphs of temperature and humidity data to attract visitors. Similarly, if you supply or store products that are sensitive to heat, humidity or light (food, pharmaceutical products, document storage, classic cars etc.) then by publishing data onto a web site you can demonstrate that correct conditions have been maintained.

A second application area is the remote viewing of your own data. Examples include the remote monitoring of fridges, freezers and HVAC systems. Because the data is uploaded to a web site, it is possible to view data from several different sites (which could even be in different countries) simultaneously.

Automotive News — New Demo Software

Last month we announced the launch of the diagnostic kit, complete with automotive specific software. We now have a demo version of this software which contains the oscilloscope software and a large number of reference waveforms. The full version of the software contains over fifty technical topics explaining how to make measurements and interpret the results. In the demo version you are limited to the following four topics:

  • Primary ignition (voltage)
  • Multi point injectors (current)
  • Camshaft sensor (AC excited)
  • Diesel glow plugs

The demonstration software and further details on the automotive kit can be found at:

New Science Experiment

Our library of science experiments for data loggers and oscilloscopes continues to grow. New this month is an experiment investigating traffic noise using the sound level sensor on the DrDAQ data logger.

See this and 60 other interesting and educational experiments at:
http://www.picotech.com/experiments/index.html

If you are interested in contributing an experiment to our library, please contact us.

Currently we are most interested in new biology and chemistry experiments. To encourage people to submit experiments, we will donate a DrDAQ data logger or ADC-40 for each experiment we use on our web site.

Technical tip — Thick Trace Lines in PicoScope

If you are using PicoScope for a demonstration to a group of people, or are visually impaired, you may find that the trace is difficult to see. It is possible to thicken PicoScope's line thickness to increase visibility

  1. Choose File | Setup | Colours
  2. Adjust the line thickness
  3. Choose OK
