Pico wins Queen's Award for Enterprise!

We're extremely proud to announce that we have received a Queen's Award for Enterprise, the UK's highest accolade for business success. It's also the only business award that includes an invitation to meet HM The Queen at Buckingham Palace! We'd like to thank you, our loyal customers, for contributing to the growth of our company over its 23-year history. However, we are not going to rest on our laurels, so look out for the exciting new products and software features that we plan to introduce this year.

If you'd like to know how we got here, see the History of Pico Products for the history of our scopes and data loggers.

Featured article: Troubleshooting on the Move

Today's engineers and technicians face increasingly complex and critical troubleshooting tasks. Designs that work fine in the lab can sometimes fail in the field, causing customer dissatisfaction, lost production, expensive repair bills and, sometimes, safety concerns. With the customer impatient to get their system fixed as rapidly as possible there is huge pressure to troubleshoot and fix problems quickly and accurately.

A new article on EE Times Europe's Design Center explains how you can use PicoScope 2200A and 5000 Series oscilloscopes to debug some common field-failure problems.

Technical note: The USB bottleneck myth debunked

There are many online articles comparing USB oscilloscopes (such as PicoScopes) with their benchtop predecessors. Some of these reviews are based on inaccurate or out-of-date ideas about how USB oscilloscopes work. We have set the record straight in a forum post called The USB bottleneck myth debunked.

In this post, we explain:

  • Why the USB interface doesn't limit sampling rate
  • Why PicoScopes don't slow down when using deep memory
  • How PicoScopes can beat benchtop oscilloscopes on display update rates

PicoScope 2205A oscilloscope review

There's a new independent review of the PicoScope 2205A by the RoadTest group, part of the Element14 Community on element14.com. We're particularly pleased by this one as we scored 10/10 in all six categories: performance, specifications, software quality, ease of use, support materials and price! It's a very detailed review that should answer most of your questions about the scope, including:

  • Understanding the specifications
  • Comparison with other manufacturers
  • Package contents
  • Teardown (at the owner's risk!)
  • Installation
  • The PicoScope software
  • Various tests in time and frequency domains
  • Data logging with PicoLog
