Tech Tip: PicoScope 6 reference waveforms

In PicoScope 6, reference waveforms are virtual oscilloscope channels drawn on the scope view. You can overlay live waveforms on top of them for comparison. Here's how to convert a saved waveform to a reference waveform in PicoScope 6:
  • Load the saved waveform from a .psdata file
  • Go to Tools > Reference Waveforms
  • Highlight the channel (for example, A) that you wish to convert
  • Click Duplicate and check the box next to the new waveform name, such as A (1)
  • If you wish, click Edit to rename the reference waveform
  • Click OK
The reference waveform is now visible on the scope view alongside the live channels.

Questions and answers

Q. Is it possible to use two PicoScope 3000s on one PC, with each scope running on a separate software instance?

A. Yes, PicoScope 6 is designed to work in this way. We often use it to drive an AWG (arbitrary waveform generator) on one scope feeding the input channel of another scope.
