A video series for students: Learning electrical engineering with PicoScope oscilloscopes

Roger Berry, Teaching Fellow at the School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University of Leeds, has put together a series of videos going through the basics of PicoScope for students using them for the first time. This playlist has periodically been updated with new content; the complete series is available to watch now!

Learning electrical engineering with PicoScope offers an enlightening introduction to our oscilloscopes, as well as glowing testimonials from students and faculty alike. In twelve tutorial videos, Berry covers all of the essentials, from connecting your PicoScope for the first time to different triggering perspectives.

These videos are an absolute must for newcomers to our technology, as well as anyone looking for a quick refresher course! Check out the full playlist below.

PicoScope 2204A, the ideal scope for every student

During the pandemic, many universities and other academic institutions used PicoScopes for remote teaching and distance learning. The feedback was universally positive with academics and students alike praising the advantages and flexibility that each student having their own PicoScope brought.

The PicoScope 2204A is an ideal companion for every student studying electronics, electrical engineering or a related subject. Priced at $165 / €139 / £115, it costs less than many text books to equip each student with their own fully featured oscilloscope. See this video for more information on the use of Pico products in academia.

Pico joins the CiA!

CiA stands for "CAN in Automation" and is the manufacturers’ special interest group for CAN (Controller Area Network) based technologies.

CiA members develop and publish specifications that cover all Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) layers and applications in different domains. CiA representatives support actively the international standardization of CAN-related topics.

Additionally, CiA members promote jointly CAN technology in different markets. This includes road vehicles, off-road and off-highway vehicles, industrial automation, medical devices, rail vehicles, maritime electronics, building automation, power generation and distribution, and many others.

CiA is of interest to both Pico’s Test & Measurement and our Automotive Diagnostics businesses as new CAN standards are developed and deployed. Membership will enable us to participate in activities including seminars, conferences and interoperability groups that will enable us to stay at the forefront of this key networking technology.

MacOS and Linux support for PicoScope 7 T&M Early Access

Did you know that our new PicoScope 7 T&M Early Access software is also supported on MacOS and Linux? PicoScope 7 is a major development to deliver the next-generation user interface for PicoScope Test & Measurement oscilloscopes.

Windows, Linux and macOS versions of the software are being simultaneously developed, with feature parity across all three. These releases are still in a Beta stage, and we greatly rely on your feedback in order to deliver you the smoothest possible experience using our scopes.

Windows, Mac and Linux users alike can find something of interest in our PS7 forum. Here, we answer your questions, share vital updates about our PS7 software, and more!

Check out the PS7 forum on our website, and download our PS7 T&M Early Access software here.

NPL review: Benchmarking electronic calibration of USB-enabled Network Analysers

Our new PicoVNA automated E-Cal calibration feature is the subject of the National Physical Laboratory's white paper: Benchmarking electronic calibration of USB-enabled Network Analysers. In this paper, our PicoVNA 108 E-Cal unit is tested against both mechanical calibration methods and national standards, in order to establish whether automatic calibration methods garner results as accurate as those obtained using the traditional method.
"...it was not possible to distinguish the E-Cal results from results obtained using traditional calibration methods. This demonstrates that the E-Cal unit can be used, without any loss of accuracy, in applications where previously mechanical calibration methods have been used." - Skinner, Nazoa, Ashcroft & Ridler for the National Physical Laboratory
We at Pico are delighted with the outcome of this investigation into the automatic calibration feature of our PicoVNA 108; if you'd like to learn more about the full test, check out the paper on our documentation page below.

PicoVNA E-Cal training videos: TRL calibration

In celebration of the PicoVNA E-Cal and TRL calibration launch, we have composed a playlist of training videos, talking through the features and processes of these calibration methods.  We're proud to announce that the playlist is now available to watch in its entirety!

In the videos, Mark Ashcroft talks through automated calibration of the PicoVNA using the new PicoVNA E-Cal modules, and explains the process of TRL and TRM calibration (Through Reflect Line and Through Reflect Match, respectively). He then goes on to compare measurement results from the new and traditional calibration methods.  Want to learn more? Check out the playlist at the link below!

PicoLog Cloud 6.2.4

We are pleased to announce an update to PicoLog Cloud, this release adds new display modes and fixes the following bugs:

New delta cursors
We've added a new feature to enable users to accurately measure between 2 points on the graph. Simply dropped in by 2 mouse clicks, the first value, second value and the delta (difference) are displayed on the graph.

Updated PicoScope 2000 Series driver
Due to a hardware change for the PicoScope 2000B series, we've updated the driver. The change is seamless for users, but this version of software or newer is required to use the new scopes manufactured from April 2022.

You can download our PicoLog Cloud software free of charge on our website.
