Get ASG data directly without connection to i/p channels

Post by MountTarun »

Hi,
I have just started with the pico-2204A. I wanted to measure the relative phase between the sin wave I generate and the external circuit. But I have only two probes, so I was wondering if there was any way I could monitor the ASG data on the system directly without the need to connect it with an input channel effectively saving me a probe.
Please let me know is there is any way to achieve the same.
Thank you.

Hi MountTarum,

Unfortunately, there is no way to connect the output of the Signal Generator/Arbitrary Waveform Generator to an input channel of the scope internally. You have to make the connection externally.

However, if all you are doing is measuring the relative phase between the input and output of your circuit, is there any reason why you can't just put one probe on the input and one on the output to measure the phase difference?

The Frequency Response Analyzer application uses this approach.

Thank you for you're reply Martyn and Gerry.
I would generate the sine wave with the ASG. I will connect the probes externally but that would require me to use three probes. I was only wondering if there was to get the data directly as the interface exists.
The Frequency response analyzer will be useful.

Hi MountTarum,

O.K. then your options are:
  • Buy another Probe from us for £17 (https://www.picotech.com/accessories/st ... 00-mhz-bnc)
    Shop around for a Probe
Shop around for short Male BNC to Male BNC lead and BNC T adapter so that you can connect the Sig Gen directly to the input channel of the Scope (externally) and the input of your circuit.
