I’m having a difficulty with Picoscope running XUbuntu on our college physics lab PCs
Picoscope works at higher time-base speeds but freezes in stopped mode when time-base is slowed down to 10seconds per division or below. Picoscope can be unfrozen by closing closed down the program and reopening but then it reverts to high-speed time-base.
The slow time-based is very really handy for timing things passing through light gates.
We are using
XUbuntu 15.04
Release: 15.04
Codename: vivid
i386 32Bit Version
I've copied setup files from the user directory into zip
Many thanks for you support,
Hi Hitesh,
The USB was plugged directly into to PC.
We tried using different usb ports at the back of the PC and also using the ones at the front. We also tried it using a similar XUbuntu PC and always got the same symptoms.
Maybe our PC architecture is unusual (they are all the same make). I'll take one of our Picoscopes home and try it on my home PC and let you know if I experience the same issue.
Many thanks for your help,
Mark
Hi Hitesh,
I think I was using a dark grey coloured USB lead.
I am making the dangerous assumption that USB leads are relatively inter changeable.
Will try it with the slightly unusual looking Picoscope provided lead and let you know what happens.
Many thanks,
Mark
Hi Hitesh
Using the original light grey (Picoscope provided) lead did not solve the issue.
I was using a longer lead originally belonging to a printer.
Handy to have a slightly longer lead but I guess its another variable that could cause issues.

Tried the college Picoscopes on home PC running XUbuntu and found same freeze problem when timebase is 5 seconds per division or slower.
Mini Gigabyte motherboard with integrated AMD processor
Description: Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Release: 16.04
Codename: xenial
amd64
Same problem with 2203 & 2205 Picoscope models.
We have had these Picoscopes for some time now. Could the age of the hardware be related?
Thanks in advance for your advice,
Mark
Could you please click Help -> About PicoScope 6 Beta... for both products and send a screenshot of each to support@picotech.com along with your contact details?
Model: PicoScope 3425
Serial Number: AR012/042
USB Version: 20,0
Calibration Date: Donnerstag, 7. Oktober 2010
Hardware Version: 8
Driver Version: PS3000 Linux Driver, 3.10.0.9
under Ubuntu 16.04 x64
The former version worked ok.
It hangs already when I set the time base to 200ms/div. Just a restart is not enough. I have to unplug the hardware that it is recognized again.
Regards
Michael
