I am trying to look at a very tiny returning signal from a
transducer. Parts of the signal starts to dissapear when zooming in on
the Y axis going from 500mV to 200mV (see attached pictures). Why is
this?
That does look strange when changing the voltage range from +/-500mV to +/-200mV, it would be useful to know how high a voltage overrange there is, so changing from the +/-500mV range to +/-20V range would be interesting to see.
Do you get the same effect if you try channels B to D ?
You will note that as you change from 500mV to 200mV a relay will click inside the unit as the input stage is switched to handle the smaller level signals. This will mean that the overvoltage near 10V signal you have at the input connector is significantly higher when it reaches the ADC chip on the 200mV range compared with the same signal on the 500mV range.
If using 10x on the probe it is worth setting the software to the same, although this will only reflect in the correct voltages being displayed in the graph.
The issue you are seeing is that on the 200mV and lower ranges the input amplifiers are saturating and they will take time to recover.
You can try using the graph zooming function on the 500mV or higher ranges to see more detail, potentially using some Resolution Enhancement on the Channel DSP tab to clean the signal a bit.
