If you're considering running a 2205A from a very old machine then the problem will be that any computer that only has USB 1.1 ports won't have any software that it could use to communicate with the PicoScope 2205A (PicoScopes didn't even exist before USB 2 was launched).
If there's some other reason that you want to know this, then could you tell us the reason.
Sorry for not providing enough information and the question was related to using a usb isolator.
I contacted Olimex manufactures of usb isolators, and they suggested that I contact you with the question in my post.

The second problem that you have is that the PicoScope 2205A doesn't appear to even support USB 1.1. If you look at our Specifications here: https://www.picotech.com/oscilloscope/2 ... ifications, you will notice, under 'PC Connectivity" that we state "USB 2.0 (USB 3.0/3.1 compatible)". I would suggest finding a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0/3.1 Isolator (with up to 1000V of isolation, if that is what you need).
You also need to be aware that we have the possibility of problems with any USB intermediary device (such as USB isolators, USB hubs, USB repeaters, USB extenders, USB converters, etc) in that there is a very specific startup process, that our Software performs. PicoScope 7 enumerates, on the USB bus, to present a list of what is connected to the user, using USB 2. Once a selection of an available device has been made (or if there is only one connected) then, PicoScope 7 disconnects and reconnects using the appropriate USB version for the selected device. Unfortunately, there are a large number of these intermediary devices that do not handle this process well.
Unfortunately, at this moment in time, we can only 100% recommend a USB 3.00 extender over fibre in the category of intermediary devices. We have previously tested an Alldaq USB 3.0 1000V isolator (see here: https://www.saelig.com/supplier/alldaq/ ... saelig.pdf) with mixed success (you need to ensure that you have the power supply connected, but there is the possibility of dropping the connection after a reasonable period of usage).
There may be users on this Forum that would be able to provide you with better recommendations, based upon their experiences.
Thank you for your time and the detailed response. I will purchase a high speed 480Mbps 400mA minimum output USB isolator that supports 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.1 USB ports and give it a go.
When I do get the isolator, I will report back, thanks again for your response.

I don't think 400mA will bring you succes. I know the 3000 and 4000 series will not start and function properly with 400mA.
Don't know about the 2000 series scopes.
Yes this may be an issue so I guess I will give it a go. Some of the USB isolators provide for increased output using an earth insulated power supply,however I would use a battery pack if required.

Update on USB isolator. Have used isolator using the ADuM4160 chip, USB 2 compatible. At this stage have not encountered any issues with the Picoscope 2205A.Also used the isolator with a hand held scope and again no software issues at this point.
