Decay time measurements of LEDs

Post by Lumen at work »

Hi,

I would like to measure decay time of luminescence of an LED (typical voltage 2.8V, current 100-200mA). Ideally I would use the waveform generator to drive the LED and use an InGaAs photodiode to detect the LED luminescence. Decay time should be in the milisecond range. What type of Picoscope could be suitable (if at all) for this task?

Many thanks!

Non of the AWG scopes can deliver 200mA at the output.

But a simple driver as shown below can do the trick, you need a adjustable bench power supply set at about 3V.

You can use a probe between GND and Probe-1 to measure the current in the LED (0.1V is 200mA)
And use the other probe with the photodiode to measure the decay.

Any scope with a AWG would do in your case.
