Bad SNR

Post by diwell201 »

Hello...
I have a new 2204A and I'm getting strange readings when I first test it. The sine curve is "angular", "edgy" and not smooth and in the FFT I measured a high background noise directly at the generator output. Am I doing something wrong or is the device defective?

That looks normal, the 2204a is an 8 bit scope so there would be 256 levels across a given voltage range, you are currently set to +/-10V and are looking at a +/-1V signal and there are around 25 discrete levels in your signal.

Try setting the voltage range to +/-1V and set the signal generator to 900mV and you will see a better signal. Additionally go into the Scope menu via the button at the top and then select the sampling tab and increase the Target Number of Samples
