Unable to zoom with mouse scroll wheel on Ubuntu

Post by mos8580 »

Hi,

I went to use my Picoscope on a new Ubuntu 20.04 LTS install and it seems that I can only download Picoscope 7 now. I'm used to Picoscope 6 which seemed to work well enough. Anyway when I use Picoscope 7 on Ubuntu I am unable to do horizontal zooming using the mouse scroll wheel.

This is something quite fundamental am I missing something here?

Thanks for the reporting the issue. I have created a ticket in our bug tracking system.
I have tested this on Ubuntu 22.10 PC and have the same issue.

I'm confirming that I cannot use a mouse or a touchpad to zoom on Ubuntu ? If able any suggestions on how to work ? If unable I would like to say that I think this an important usability issue and think it should be a priority.

Appreciatively, Sven

It's coming up on a year since reported and I'm trying to understand why such a basic feature wouldn't be implemented. Perhaps Linux Picoscope users too few ? or whatever the cross-platform development tools used don't actually implement hid for all platforms ? Inquiring minds want to know. I will say that good zoom touchpad and/or mouse functionality makes using DSO software much easier and more interesting and my Digilent AD3 is a testament to that.

It's nearly one year since the last reply regarding this bug. There doesn't seem to be any kind of progress! This is a serious usability problem under Linux, and the fact that it's still not solved after one year makes PS 7 look unprofessional.

Hello Picoscope team,

a new version of picoscope 7 was released yesterday over the ps7 repo, with this bug still present. If there is a deeper issue with the gui, it would be really nice if picotech gives this information to the userbase. The picoscopes are high quality and maybe the best usb based scopes available, but they are also very expensive regarding the lower than anverage analog bandwidth and analog channel count, and something that basic and important for the usability should be high on the priority list of the manufacturer. As a customer and user I would love to see picoscope 7 to have the best UI in the world of usb based scopes working under linux.

There are several posts of users with (in my opinion) legitimate questions regarding hard- and software, but there seem to be a lot of posts without any answer from picotech staff. This is disappointing to say the least.

regards
derree
