Signal generator output resistance

Post by abielinski »

Hello,

I have a 5444D MSO PicoScope, which lists a 50 ohm output resistance for the signal generator. I am applying this signal across a circuit that has a load with a similar net resistance. I would like to calculate the exact power dissipation through that circuit, so I am wondering if the output resistance is in parallel or series to my external circuit?

In other words, is the programmed signal voltage equal to the voltage drop across the external circuit, or do I need to consider the signal generator output resistance as I would in a voltage divider equivalent circuit?

Thanks!
