Is it okay to power PicoScope 5000 series 24/7

Post by lsm0828 »

Hi,

I have a 5442. It requires a USB connection and also an external power supply if I want to use four channels.
The thing is if I connect a USB cable to a PC, the picoscope automatically powers on. I do not want to plug off and on whenever I use the device.

Is it okay to plug a USB cable in 24/7?

Hi lsm0828,

Having the PicoScope connected for a long time would not be a problem for the PicoScope (it has been designed to be able to stream data to the computer for extended periods of time) however, it may be a problem for the PC interaction with PicoScope 6 software, as there can be anomalies that result in undefined behaviour (e.g. when the PC goes to sleep) which may well then require you to unplug and then reconnect the PicoScope anyway.
