usb-wifi dongle how to?

Post by stevewenner »

I have an 5443A and would like to connect it to WIFI and use SCPI commands to control it. If I purchase an USB type B male to A female adapter and an USB-WIFI dongle and plug these into the USB B female on the back of the unit will I be able to communicate/control the device? (I'm wondering mostly about how I would load the driver for the dongle onto the PicoScope or even if I can??)

Thanks

Hi Steve,

Unfortunately, what you are asking is not going to be straightforward to do, as we don't have software or an API that can interpret SCPI comands.

So, in order to use SCPI commands, you would need to download our Software Development Kit (from here: https://www.picotech.com/library/oscill ... nt-kit-sdk), and use our example applications (from here: https://github.com/) to develop your own API to accept SCPI commands to control the PicoScope with.

If you want to control the PicoScope remotely then you should be able to use a wireless USB hub, like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/IOGEAR-Wireles ... B0058DN1Q4 (note that this is just an example of what is available, as we haven't tested this specific device with our products), or a wired USB hub such as this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silex-600-USB- ... way&sr=8-1 (which we know does work with our products).

If you really need wireless, and you can't find a suitable wireless USB hub, then you could always just connect the Wired hub that I recommended with a wireless converter or Wi-Fi Range Extender, such as this one (https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-Wi-Fi- ... lp_pl_dp_4) again not tested, but it may be easier to find a suitable wireless converter than it may be to find a wireless hub.

Once you have your physical setup, you just need to configure it to communicate with your computer over wireless/wired Ethernet and, to set this up on your computer, you should find the help you need from the instruction/user manual or by contacting the manufacturer directly.
