I'm doing a project to map out the frequency profile of guitar pedals, sending 20hz-3khz via signal generator into the pedal into the 2000 series pico.
Works great, however there are a few manual / less optimal issues.
1. Is it possible to have the spectrum analyzer retain the position of each frequency peak as it sweeps from 20-3khz? I'm manually assigning the hz and graphing it on paper currently. If this is stream line-able that'd save a ton of time.
2. Is it possible to modify the signal generators "bump up" frequencies? Right now it goes from 1k to 2k and 2k to 3k using the arrows. I want to adjust it to go in 100 increments, but not have to type in 1.1khz each time.
3. Possible to add more graph X Labels for frequencies? Right now it's showing 0 500hz 1khz 1500hz 2000hz. Lot of room in there for 2 more labels stepping up to help show what frequency we're at.
1/ Yes, go to 'Spectrum Options' (the icon underneath 'Views' in the Menu), and in the 'Y-axis' section, select 'Peak Hold' in the drop down list for 'Display mode'.
2/ Yes, you can get the Signal Generator to automatically do the steps for you, as follows:
In the Signal Generator window, click on the 'Sweep Mode' check-box to select the Sweep Options, then (a) change the value in the 'Frequency Increment' Text box to 100Hz, (b) in the 'Stop Frequency' text box enter 3kHz, and in the 'Start Frequency' text box, near the top of the Signal Generator window, enter 20Hz, and (c) adjust the 'Increment Time interval' according to how fast you want the automatic sweep to go.
3/Unfortunately, no, so I will put forward a request to add this to our display as it is expanded.
In the meantime, here are some options that you might want to consider:
1/ You can use Time Measurement Rulers to find specific frequencies of signal peaks (by clicking on the small white square just above '0.0' on the x-axis, and dragging it to position the ruler at the peak you want to measure the frequency of).
2/ You can zoom in to different sections of the x-axis to see smaller increments (by selecting the 'Windowed Zoom' Icon, just to the right of the icon with the hand on it, and then clicking in the graph and dragging to create a selected area to zoom into).
3/ You can add a text line below the X-axis (by clicking on the 'Notes' arrow, at the bottom right of the display), and manually add intermediate values, by using the measurement rulers to find the positions, and then using the keyboard to type the values, and the Tab/space bar to position the typed values horizontally on the Text line.
4/ You can export the Spectrum peaks to a CSV file (by going to the 'File' menu, selecting 'Save As..' and then selecting 'CSV' in the drop down list for 'Save As Type') and then import them into Microsoft Excel and create a graph for them with a higher precision Frequency axis.
