Parallel port problem

Hi,

I found your website and thinked maybe you could advice or help me with little problem I have with my DAQ card.

I have parallel port DAQ card which have 8 ADC 8 (max187) and 5 digital inputs. It is custom made as software also.

I have driver to run it on WIN XP.

I work well on my multiboot IBM (98 and XP) when I have set bi-directional mode from BIOS.

When I turn mode to ECP or EPP then it doesn't work anymore...

Where could I start finding problem ? do I have hardware (hope not DAQ card) or software problem ?

Hello,

This depends on the device you have. Also, winXP does not like to use standard parallel port modes and the problem may lie here.

Have you considered using a USB to parallel port adapter?

Why should I use USB->parallel adapter ? I have LPT on my PC. Those USB adapter on WIN XP are only printing support, not REAL printer ports.

Turning mode from bi-directional to EPP or ECP makes problem....

All works well otherwise.

Thank you for your post.

The ECP and EPP modes are enhanced printer modes and thus will probably work in a slightly different way. To find out what is changing between the various modes you can research how they work and differ on the internet. I suspect the differences between the way the modes work is where the problem lies.
