ADC-212 Not Seen

Post by alien.46.uk »

Hi All,

I'm having some real problems getting my old Picoscope ADC-212 working. It was purchased a month or so ago and I've been trying to get things going with very little success.

I've got 2 rigs I've been bouncing around on trying to get it to work. First is a Panasonic Toughbook CF-19 Mk.2. Second up is a HP 2740p.

Toughbook: Windows 7 32-Bit, using the Parallel to Serial converter. Doesn't get seen. Also have a Startech EC1PECPS which again doesn't bring up the Pico.

HP: Windows 8 32-Bit. Uses the above startech adaptor. Again no joy.

I have the Pico Automotive 6 software as well the the main Picoscope and Picolog which comes down in the 'legacy/discontinued' software list on the Pico site.

I also have Pico Automotive R 5.09.5, Pico R.33 and Picoscope R6.6.19 discs which came in the package, but the PicoAuto R5, wont install on either system (gets interrupted it says) and not tried the others.

I have the car power adaptor and a mains power adaptor and the Red power light comes on fine.

Just after some help as it's starting to drive me potty!

Cheers all!

Getting older parallel port devices to work can be troublesome.

When you say a Parallel to Serial converter do you meant the Pico USB to Parallel Port device ?

If so what happens when you plug this into the PC on it's own ? Does it appear in device manager ?

As far as I'm aware it is the Pico one.

It's the one which was sent in the package which is what the garage used for years before upgrading. Have you a piccy of the Pico one so I can compare?

When you ask about it being seen, are you referring to the adaptor as a standalone? If so, I've never checked! Or do you mean the Pico, or the Startech card instead?

Cheers for the reply by the way :).

Getting very frustrating this is! Just cant afford a new unit!

The adapter on its own, this is a necessary step before then plugging in the ADC.

I don't have any pics as I am away from the office.

I am not sure if the Startech card will work, not one I have tried.

Well the Startech works all well and good. Have other Parallel devices, but the Pico just isn't :(.

I've had another attack at it today with no luck :(.

That adaptor doesn't look like mine either. Apparently it's the one they've used, but the 212 was redundant for 12 months, so perhaps the original went walkies from the garage and someone put that in I don't know. So I will drop that route then. Obviously it isn't the right one. So the only route now is the direct parallel port using the Startech.

Either way the Pico still isn't seen using the parallel port. Anything I can try with this?

Appreciate the help so far by the way. Much appreciated.

Right a bit of success.

Have got the Automotive software seeing the scope I think. Just sat on the bench, so nothing to test, but when I open the software it seems to see a signal.

Does the PicoDiagnostics work with the ADC-212? I sort of assumed so with it running PicoAutomotive 6, but it says no Picoscope found in the bottom left all the time?

That sounds correct.

Unfortunately Diagnostics will not work with this device, too old.

Hmm ... Damn!

That was one of the main reason for hunting a Pico down as I normally use Hanteks.

Just assumed the Diag would work as PicoAuto 6 works with the 212. Should have read up on this first!

Thanks.
