Hello and thank you for accepting me onto the forum. I'm not into Test and Measurement, but my reason for registering is to try and get some help over a long term problem.
I'm an automotive technician and back in about 2016 I was introduced to the PicoScope. I found it to be a very powerful tool in diagnostics but soon ran into problems...
I have a automotive scope 4223 four channel. I'm using the USB blue recommended lead. Sometimes when I double click Pico7 on the desktop the scope already connected does not appear, in otherwords a popup menu advising the scope is being searched for but not found!
My solution to that problem has always been to disconnect the blue USB lead and reconnect it and then connection is present, but occassionally the scope stops recording data and the connection has been interupted and lost!
The above is the first problem, now my latest concerns...
I was using software 9+ times out of date when I was trying to calculate the tooth count on a crankshaft and whether I used the rising edge or the falling edge the legend in the lower tool bar recoded either --- or 0. After some discussions with other Pico members who advised me to update to the latest software I then got intermittent problems of the same nature, i.e. sometimes the legend would record a tooth count and sometimes it won't. The tooth count can also be inaccurate such that when the rulers are placed in the same positions, the delta reads different and the Hz and RPM are significantly different.
I decided after some time that the problem must be Windows and the laptops I'm using!
A few years back I invested in the Pico NVH kit and found that the software would not run on my then current laptops. I spoke with Pico back then, about year 2017 and was advised to upgrade my laptop, where I was provided some specs. The PC shop did something to a laptop Lenovo that made the NVH kit work, and it did work so long as nothing else was running on the laptop. Now using that same laptop for the latest Pico 7 download, when I use the rulers sliding them across the graticule screen, the rulers jerk in operation intermittently and don't always provide a smooth operation when used. The results recorded in the ruler legend are not consistent for the same ruler positions, even after zooming.
All my concerns above I'm sure are down to a software program that is much too powerful to operated on a Windows program?
I'd appreciate some help to select a computer specification that can more than handle Pico 7 in use.
I apologise for the long delay in responding to this. I'm not sure if you are still looking for an answer to this, but if you are, I would suggest posting the request on our Automotive forum here: https://www.picoauto.com/ where you are much more likely to get a comprehensive response.
