Max streaming speed 4824A in PS7

Post by bennog »

I am considering buying a 4824A scope.
But I need at least 5MS/sec streaming mode with all 8 channels enabled.
It is possible in the SDK according the documentation.
But in the documentation they only mention PS6 and not PS7, i know some limits are increased in PS7.

I see the automotive 8 channel is exactly the same prise as the T&M is it the same product ?

I got a email from pico support claiming that the 4824A can do 10MSamples/sec for all 8 channels at the same time.
This would add up to 80MSamples/sec == 160MByte/sec over USB3.

On the 3404D MSO I have over here PS7 only let me do a total of 40MSamples/sec. (4x10 or 2x20 or 1x40)
So my guess is that the 8424A is also limited to 40MSamples/sec when streaming in PS7, so 5MS/sec when all 8 channels are active ?

Is this correct or can the 4824A do a total of 80MSamples/sec when streaming in PS7.

Looking at the specification PDF 80MS/s sampling rate seems to only apply to max 4 channels, 5+ channels is limited to 40MS/s, and that's for block mode, not streaming.
Streaming mode is marked as max 20MS/s shared between channels in Pico 6 software.

No info for Pico 7 software there, but I don't think I've seen any indication that the streaming speed has been changed for any scope model between version 6 and 7, but it's possible I've missed info about that.

Using the software development kit higher streaming speeds are possible, but that's little help if you are using Pico 7.

I got visual confirmation from pico that you can stream 8 channels at 20 mSamples/sec (so total 80 Msamples)
in PS7 you are hover limited to the 250 mSamples total memory allowed in PS7 (32GB installed)
it would be a nice upgrade to have 1Gsamples memory in PS7.

The problem then is houwever the interface becomes horrible slow (it is now already when you have 150Msamples total capture data)
