NVH 3 channel vs 4 channel

Hi all,

I am looking at getting a NVH kit and want to know any advantage of getting a 4 channel over a 3 channel. My understanding is that the 4th channel is used as an extra sensor input for example if you have one accelerometer measuring X,Y, and Z axis you can have another accelerometer measuring one extra X, Y, or Z axis or using the extra input as a microphone input. Is this correct? does any one think they should have gotten the 4 channel over the 3 channel?
