Save measurement data on Mac

Post by neal »

I just started using a PicoScope 2000 and have found it to be a very handy little device. So handy, in fact, that I am now trying to use it for even more tasks than originally planned. For my latest effort, I have created four "measurements" that display nicely on the bottom of the screen, but I need to be able to save these to file for subsequent processing. The only "save as" option I have found that includes them at all is the pdf output, but this does not lend itself to easily doing anything with the data.

Ideally, I would like to stream these measurements to a file for each triggered event, although I would be able to get started by simply saving the values for the 32 currently captured waveforms.

I found this long-running threadabout using the windows CLI, but have found nothing relevant to Mac. If this problem is much easier to solve on Linux, I could consider running from a Linux VM.

As I tend to use python for data analysis, I would like to eventually figure out how to use the picosdk-python-wrappers but it was not immediately obvious how hard that would be to bring up and whether or not it would even give me access to the "measurements".

Thank you for your help,
Neal

Hi neal,

Unfortunately, the CLI is only applicable to windows platforms.

Alternatively, if you can make use of any of the Deep Measurements, then you can export those as a CSV file.

What are "Deep Measurements" and are they available on the PicoScope 2204?

If I take on the learning curve, would I be able to access the present "measurements" through the picosdk-python-wrappers?

Thank you,
Neal

Hi neal,

Sorry, my mistake, Deep measurements are not available for our 2000 series PicoScopes.

Unfortunately, again, the measurements are not duplicated in our example code that we have for our Software Development Kit, so you would need to create the code for the measurements.

Another option you could consider is using a virtual machine on the Mac, to get access to the CLI. I have had success with using Fusion to work with a PicoScope in the past (you would have to ensure that the VM has a pass-through USB interface so that it can completely control the communication with the scope).
