Picoscope retaining file handles

Post by nurber »

Hi Forum. Using PicoScope in the field today I captured a waveform and then saved it. I then captured another waveform and saved it with a different filename. I didn't like the name given to the first file so I went to File Explorer to change the name and when I pressed enter key to save my name changes File Explorer stopped responding. I've seen this problem before when using Picoscope. Am I making bad assumption that not active file should be released or is there something else at play ?

Yes I noticed the same yesterday.
It is not keeping the file handle because then explorer would tell you this.
In my case it was moving a file after saving it with Picoscope software.

PicoScope® 6 - PC Oscilloscope software version: 6.14.5.4585
Driver Version: 2.1.22.1688
Firmware Version: 1.7.5.0 / 1.0.66.0

Windows 10 64 bit Build 1903 OS build 18362.418

Tried with the same PicoScope build and Windows 10 64 bit Build 1903 OS build 18362.449 and it seems to be working fine for me. The file saving uses standard Microsoft components so it could be a .Net issue but can't be sure.

Could you take a quick video showing it falling over, or alternatively send in the trace.xml file to support@picotech.com so that we can replicate your steps exactly.

Ok attempted to reproduce the problem first time explorer is trying to move the file but stays always at 0% (no screen recording of it) closing the Picosope program did not release the lock. So it could be some other external program (stack data synchronization or virus scanner or .....)

I will try some more times during the day.
