Hi, Just bought my picoscope 2204A and eager to learn it

Post by Yan3400 »

Kind of an old timer at 80 but still active and willing to learn. I do welding machining, music and babysitting in addition to several hobbies and interests that keep growing.
A little impatient at times looking for shortcuts that help me to learn a progress quickly since time is very limited, Retired 24 years ago now looking for a complete list of settings that would allow me to see the 2204A on inspecting the secondary signals of my Honda Civic 1997 4 cylinders.
I have also a Tektronics 465M that purchased used in eBay for little but not the best tool to learn if it is really working well that I have my doubts.
Someone saying Hello and pointing to a list of settings will be greatly appreciated, since will allow me to get on with the settings with minimum time lost gathering the info.
Thanks in Advance.

For Automotive questions please visit our dedicated Automotive Forum

The PicoScope 2204a is not recommended for use as an Automotive Scope, it does not have the necessary hardware protection and performance so you will not be able to use the PicoScope Automotive and Diagnostic software, or have access to the guided tests and waveform library.

Full details on our specialist automotive products can be found here.

Martyn: Apréciate your comment and thank you very much.
Now I have a couple questions to aid me in making a decision:
I am a retired mechanical engineer and could probably extrapolate info comparing with what people are doing with other models or brands as long as the 2204A has the potential with extra research and precautions to give me those waveforms on the screen. Does it?

Also what could be another path of action since I just opened the box and wrote some comments on the back page of the “Quick Start Guide”. The buying the correct PicoScope.
EG. posible return from Amazon or exchange; or buying a good Tektronics 465M used in eBay for about $150 if I return the PicoScope.

Another question would be what are the risks? Could I decide that I understand and can mitigate the risks with more effort and precautions before setting up and connecting?
What are specifically the risks?

I myself can add another possible path that is dig deep and decide to repair if needed the Tektronics 465M I presently own since it may be simple to calibrate or repair a simple problem if it exists. I probably need to buy additional probes since have only one and not sure it is ok.
Thank you very much for your time and opinion.
