A better color setup for picoscopes with MSO

The intention of this post is tell about a good color setup for MSO that I am really happy about. In the beginning when I was working with MSO I found it tedious to sort out which wire was going where when they are all red.

I have found these IDC connectors, H3DDH-2018M at Digikey with electronic color code. When you are working with MSO they are making it much easier to find the right wires. See picture.

The cable has a connector in both ends and is more than long enough to be cut in half, so the price is actually only $1.25 apiece. They have both polarizing key and strain relief, so they can even be used over and over again.

In picoscope the color are changed under “tools”, “preferences” and "“color”. For each wire there is a Red, Green, Blue number. With 16 wires and 3 numbers for each it takes a few minutes to type, but it only has to be done once and for all. I have listed the numbers in the spreadsheet.
