Adjusting "Capture Count" number

Post by Rakamaz »

Hello,

I would like to change the Capture Count numbers of the added Measurements.
Maybe up to very high numbers (1000-1'000'000) to have statistical value of the frequency inaccuracy of an oscillator. Or have an overview of an long observation of max. and min values as peaks.
(the exact timestamp of the max. values are not important, but the maximal values yes.)
Is it possible somehow?

I'm not sure, but as I remember earlier the Capture Count numbers were greater by default(?).

Thanks:
Péter

Hi Peter,

Unfortunately, 1,000 is the maximum that you can set in the Preferences.

Depending upon what PicoScope Model you have and the length of a waveform and what the distance between them will be (in terms of number of samples), I can think of 3 alternatives that may or may not be suitable for you. They are (with increasing levels of automation):

1/ You can capture 10,000 waveforms then perform deep measure on them and export the measurements. Then use an excel Macro to import them, perform a simple calculation to give you the period of a waveform (in number of samples) to store in another sheet along with the accumulated max and min, and finally delete the imported deep measurements. Then repeat this for the other 9,999 waveform measurements. Then repeat the whole process as many times as you need/want to, and finally perform your own statistics on the gathered/accumulated data on the second sheet.

2/ You can acquire multiple waveforms in one capture 10,000 times and repeat option (1) (except you will have to gather the partial statistics of the multiple waveforms in each processing of an imported deep measurement, but if you have enough waveforms in a single capture you will be able to get the statistics from much fewer repetitions of the Capture, Export, run Macro cycle, or no repetitions at all).

3/ You can create your own application using our Software Development Kit for Excel VBA to perform all the captures you need in one go and then perform the statistics you need.

Note I'm not saying that these are necessarily the best methods, just showing you that there are potentially viable alternatives.

Hi Gerry,

many thanks for the detailed answer!
I'm going to try the first two option next week.
