PicoScope® 4224 question

Post by eez-open »

I'm looking at PicoScope® 4224 that is presented as scope with differential inputs. I'm wondering does it come with probes, and is it possible to use standard 1x/10x probe (e.g. from my existing Tek or Rigol) for performing differential measurements.

Thanks in advance.

The 4224 is a single ended input oscilloscope, not a differential one, so will work with standard 1x/10x probes.

Thanks Martyn, should I go with PicoScope® 4444 and four D9 to single BNC adaptor to have 4-ch differential scope that can be used with four single ended probes?

You can't use a 1x/10x probe for differential measurements. With the D9 to BNC connector you can make single ended measurements using a x1/x10 probe on a 4444 scope.

Exactly what are you trying to measure ?

I'd like to use it to measure ripple and noise on power supply output. Should I use D9 to dual BNC adaptor and use two coax cables or single ended probes in that case?

What voltages are you looking at, and where is the measurement taken in respect of the mains wall outlet. Safe measurement practices are the primary factor to consider, not saving costs by re using accessories.

Primary concern is power supply output that is low voltage (max. 50 Vdc) that is isolated.

If we need to make any measurement on the HV side (up to 600 Vdc from rectified 1- and 3-phase AC mains) what you'd like to recommend for probing?

With the PicoScope 4444 I would be looking at the PicoConnect 441 for the low voltage, and the PicoConnect 442 for the high voltage.

Thanks Martyn, I'll probably take that route, buying everything from Farnell.
