Trigger frequency

Post by Nermash »

Hello,

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to get trigger frequency on Picoscope, but with no luck.

I am not sure if this feature is available at all in Picoscope, and if there is maybe some workaround to get this data?

Hi Nermash,

Could you explain exactly what you mean by Trigger Frequency?

Our trigger is a single mechanism that responds to a single shot event. You can't set it to trigger in a cyclic fashion from one single shot event, so it will not have a frequency of operation. However, you can set it to respond to an event that occurs in a cyclic fashion (using one of many repetitive trigger modes), where it will occur at each cycle, but it will still be responding to each single shot event.

If what you really mean is, "What is the fastest repeating event that a trigger will be able to reliably respond to?", then the answer is that it varies from PicoScope Model to PicoScope Model, and also depends upon which sample rate is being used. For the faster PicoScope models at the fastest sample rates, the trigger typically needs a setup time of under 1us, before firing the next trigger, so it would be able to respond to a real time event with a frequency of occurrence that is somewhere above 1 million cycles per second (i.e. it would be guaranteed to be able to respond reliably at a repetitive rate of 1 million events per second). To utilize this fastest repetitive rate you would need to select 'Rapid Trigger Mode' in PicoScope 6, or use the 'CollectRapidBlock()' function in the SDK (Note that the entry level PicoScope 2204A and 2205A don't support this mode).
