ADC 212/3 Power LED and Virtual Machine

Post by iansmith7 »

Hi
I dug out my old ADC212/3 to use as a data logger.
When I powered it up the Power LED blinks off every second is this normal?

I do not have a parallel port equipped machine to plug it into so before I spend time and money getting it connected via a parallel port adapter just wondered if this was normal.
Also I know these old Parallel port devices will not work on 64 bit systems but will they run OK on a 32bit VM running on a 64 win7 system.
All the posts i have found are quite old and none of them refer to VMs.
cheers
ian

Hi Ian,

How are you powering the ADC212/3 when the LED is blinking off?

It can be tricky enough getting a Pico product to work successfully with a VM, (even with the same bit size host). There are issues such as the VM needing to be setup to have transparent access to the hardware USB port. The issue that you will have is that you're 32-bit VM won't be able to completely bypass the OS to access the parallel port adaptor, but also won't be able to use a 64-bit OS that doesn't know how to talk to the 32-bit adapter.

Your alternative options are looking to get a second hand 32-bit PC and parallel port card or getting a new data logger such as PicoLog 1012 or 1216 (depending upon what resolution you need).

Hi gerry
thanks for your reply, sorry for my late response.
I think the Blinking LED is some sort of Boot Up process, I have noticed it stops after a few minutes.
I think I will have to settle for an old 32bit Laptop.

Cheers

Hi Ian,

OK, but if you have no parallel port equipped machine, what is supplying power to the ADC 212/3. Do you have a parallel to USB adapter, or are you using something else?
