measuring ultrasound signals, 20kHz-1Mhz

Hi all,
We are searching for a suitable device to measure, analyse and make visual ultrasound signals in the range of 20kHz up to several hundreds of kHz (higher harmonics).
We look for an oscilloscope with high sampling rate and 2 channels.
A transducer can receive the acoustic signals and convert them into a usable input signal. Perhaps picotech has also the correct probes/transducers?
Hope someone can help.

Hi peeters,

To answer your question, any of our PicoScopes would be able to do what you ask. In order to help you, we would need more information to be able to remove the models that would not be suitable for your specific application. So, could you go through the relevant information on this page (https://www.picotech.com/library/applic ... e-tutorial) and let us know more specifically what you require (e.g. memory depth, resolution, accuracy).

Unfortunately, we don't have an ultrasound sensor in our product range. However there are many sources for these on the internet. Typically the more accurate ones require an excitation voltage in order to produce a voltage that can be measured. So, if this is where you will be focusing your search for a sensor, then we do have one particular PicoScope that ordinarily would be a good candidate for your application (provided that it meets your 'other' requirements), and that is the PicoScope 4224IEPE (see here: https://www.picotech.com/oscilloscope/4 ... 4-overview) This PicoScope enables you to power an industry standard microphone sensor with an IEPE interface, without the need of an external excitation voltage supply.

Hi Gerry,
Thanks for the explanation.
With regards to the submersible transducer: no problem we will construct these ourselves.
To make our range of usage and accuracy more wider we have selected the two channel 5244B scope.
Can we also use the IEPE Interface on this type of oscillator?

Hi peeters,

The PicoScope 5244B doesn't have an IEPE interface (it's only the 4224IEPE model that has it), so if you're constructing the transducer and it's piezo-electric, you will need to implement you're own voltage supply for amplification. Also, if your transducer is Piezo-Electric you could still make the output IEPE compatible, which would provide a cleaner more accurate low impedance signal for the PicoScope and, as you say, widen the usage of your sensor.
