Manual single trigger in PicoScope 6

Post by Andreas_ »

Hello,

I am doing often noise measurements (0.1 - 10Hz) on voltage references/batteries.
This is done by single trigger measurements 10 sec/div. (100 sec measurement time).
Sometimes the noise of the source is so low that the normal trigger edge at 0 volts needs a very long time until the measurement starts.
So a "start now/trigger now" button would help in this situation.

with best regards

Hello,

I concur with Andreas. There is no "Force trigger" on Picoscope UI, which is exactly what Andreas is talking about.
It is something that is used a lot in interactive work. That would make nice improvement, and shouldn't be too much of work....

Cheers.

This is quite simple if you know how to do it.

1st set trigger to single trigger at the middle red arrow.
2nd set trigger point (yellow diamond) outside the voltage area and to the most right position possible, so it gets never triggered (right red arrow)
3th if you have changed prefferences -> sampling -> slow Sampling transition above 500 ms/div set it back to the original 200 ms/div.
4th you can start and stop capturing with the spacebar or the running button on the bottom of the screen.

The capture keeps running (and scrolling on the screen) until you hit the spacebar again.

HI Benno,

what you say works as you explained, but I'm afraid has nothing to do with "force trigger" button.
Sometimes you are trying to setup trigger params, and since screen is empty, you don't have idea where to start setting levels and such. Now in Picoscope, you have to set it to single, start, then go again in trigger and start setting.. "Force trigger" is useful to just "force" one single capture regardless your trigger settings..Sometimes you just want to see what is there while waiting for trigger to happen...
All physical scopes have it for a reason. It is not strictly necessary, but very useful time saver..

Regards.

Unfortunately it is not possible to setup a trigger, start the scope running, and then after a period of time if no triggger has occured press a single button to collect the data.

Although it sounds relatively straightforward to implement, that is not the case. However I will pass the information on to the development team, and log this as a new feature request.

You can start and stop captures without using a trigger, to get single shot captures on a button press, you just need to make use of the alarm function, Tools->Alarms, and select the option to stop the capture when capture is complete.
