I am setting up a remote data accq. system using the enviromon data logger EL005. I am trying to configure it using the logger connected to a wavecom modem and with a gsm bearer transporting the data to an ip address with a fixed port. I am configuring the modem to act as a server and running enviromon software on the client to gather the data. Therefore I need to know whether the enviromon software when configured as a client just listens at the port and detects data or does it send the server (modem) an event. The reason I am doing this i am trying to eliminate the need for a PC on site. Please let me know if you have any suggestions on a better way
Hi just to confirm what I said on the phone earlier.
You cannot do this with our software, you can have IP networking with two PCs, or you can have two GSM modems, however you cannot mix and match. There may be a way of doing this but not without making some modifications, which I wouldn't know how to do.
Hi,
Zico when looking at your software enviromon supports a tcp/ip protocol link to the logger. However this is declared in the software as a client socket with listening only. Traditional tcp/ip socket client usually send a signal to the server and the server responds by sending the required info. I am wondering if this is the case as well or if the software just recieves all info send to the specified port of the ip address configured.
We have monitorised a PV facility using Environmon, until now we have a PC at the facility so this PC was connected trough COM3 to the datalogger. Now we can not have the PC there anymore (security questions) and we have a IP point and a Ethernet/RS232 converter (EDS4100 from Lantronix). So I have intalled Environmon software in on PC at the office and I want to access to the datalogger through IP.
At the moment I have no success, I' ve tried the following:
1. In Equipment/Logger I have filled:
- Connection: IP Network
- IP Server : IP of the conversor
-IP Port: local port in my PC at office (which I am previously configured at the conversor).
I' ve restart the program but the logger is not found.
Hi I answered this question on the helpdesk, but just in case you have not picked it up, using an RS232 to ethernet device you would not use the IP settings in picolog recorder, this is for communication from one PC to another, where one PC is configured as a Server.
The RS232 to ethernet device will assign a COM port so it will appear as a COM port on device manager, so as far as Enviromon is concerned it is just another COM port. I have not tried this particular unit however I have tried using the following product:
