new user Linux Picoscope 6 beta

Post by LH4PI »

Hello All,

My name is Lars Herrnsdorf "LH4PI" , and I am a researcher for a X-ray micro sensor at a LH4PI lab.
We own a 2205A- MSO that I want to monitor the UART and current of our environment.

Have tried to install Picoscope 6 Beta linux version on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS according to to your webpage download section . Succeeded once 29 December and was very happy . then trying the Picoscope 7 early access, didn't start and the I want to revert back to version but now I can not install version 6 anymore , only version is loaded !!. Maybe the version link is not anymore available . I hope that Pico find a solution soon .

That's all there really is to it. I hope to learn a lot on this forum!

Thank you.

Try using apt-get to uninstall PicoScope 7, and then you will need to undo the edits to the list files

Code: Select all

/etc/apt/sources.list.d/
that you performed when installing PicoScope 7.
Finally follow the steps fit installing PicoScope 6.

With respect to PicoScope 7 on 18.04 another customer has reported
The only issue was an incorrectly installed folder "$HOME/.local/share/Pico Technology" which was owned by "root" meaning that the software failed at startup. On correcting this ownership, all was well.

Thanks for answer so promptly

I have tried to uninstall picoscope 7 and delete the entries for picoscope in the /etc/apt / sources.list.d once but it still keeps the version 7 . Maybe I d not have the correct syntax or spelling for how to uninstall .

Do i also need to uninstall the drivers like "
sudo apt-get remove picoscope libpl1000 libps2000 libps2000a libps3000 libps3000a libp
s4000 libps4000a libps5000 libps5000a libps6000 libusbdrdaq libpicoipp "?

Please give me the exact sudo command to uninstall picoscope 7 ., please

Hello again

I change my Ubuntu18.04.5 to speak English instead of Swedish so it esier to send log reports

here is the same report what happened when trying to follow your advice to reinstall Picoscope 6 beta as I send earlier but easier for you to read : ;

lh4pi@lh4pi-Presario-CQ56-Notebook-PC:~$ sudo apt-get install picoscope
[sudo] password for lh4pi:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
picoscope : Depends: libpicoipp (= 1.3.0-4r121) but 1.3.0-4r130 is to be installed
Depends: libps2000a (= 2.1.75-5r2957) but 2.1.78-5r3011 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
lh4pi@lh4pi-Presario-CQ56-Notebook-PC:~$

By the way , The first time I installed the Picoscope 6 beta all went well and i could use my 2205A MSO scope . All problems starts when I followed the Pico Tech. suggestion to try the version 7 and since that version didn't work (sadly, may be fixed soon) i tried to start version 6 again that hd worked without luck so far , I hope really You can find the source to this problem !!

Best regards Lars

sudo apt-get remove libps2000

Good to hear that you have PicoScope running.

You should be able to attach images, I will have to check when back at work tomorrow in case something has gone wrong with the forum.

Yes, this instruction helped me a lot too, now I have Picoscope 6 beta working perfectly too. Literally was running all the possible options of how to fix it in the past days while resting at my house in Larnaca and finally got on this forum and so a solution! Thanx!
