PT104 network instability

Post by Bef »

Hello,
I have a strange problem with PT104 devices in a distributed network.
Every once in a while one of the devices doesn't show up on the network. I can easily detect this condition by pinging the PT104. (If I can't ping it it doesn't work :D )

I have the following setup:

I have a PC (WIN10) with 4 ethernet ports. Each port is configured with an IP address in it's own subnet:

Eth0: 192.168.10.1
Eth1: 192.168.20.1
...

Now I have 2 PICOs in the ETH0 subnet and 2 PICOs in the ETH1 network:
PICO1: 192.168.10.13
PICO2: 192.168.10.14 (both on ETH0)

PICO3: 192.168.20.13
PICO4: 192.168.20.14 (both on ETH1)

When I power up, in 50% of the cases all PICOs work perfectly. Once they work they never fail.
But in the other 50% of "power-ups" PICO4 doesn't show up in the network. It's not responding to broadcasts as well.
I'm not sure if this problem is network-related or just a buggy device that fails to power up correctly. Unfortunately I can't isolate the device for testing because they are at a customer's site.
I'm just musing if someone else had this kind of problem before.

Thanks for your comments on this.

This does sound like a network type issue. To test this try swapping the identities and positions of units 1 and 4, then check if the fault stays with the unit or position and report back.
