Spectrum Analysis and swept signal generator

Post by liketech »

Hello,

I am a little new to FFT Spectrum analysis and I am trying to measure a frequency response of a filter which I have.
I have set the spectrum analyser to have a 5KHz spectrum range with 2048x Spectrum bins, which gives a Bin width 2.441Hz and a Time gate 409.6ms.
My question is about the swept signal generator. What should I set the signal generator to in terms of Frequency Increment and Increment time interval in order to give good results in the spectrum analysis?

Many thanks for any help anyone can give.

Hi this is a good question,

You would need to sweep at a rate simillar to your time gate or longer, so say your time gate is 409ms I would choose say 1second as your sweep rate, in terms of your sweep interval to get a really good representation you would choose the bin width.

Now this would take a very long time, however you can reduce the number of spetrum bins.

Hope this helps.
