IP networking using MAC

Post by gesus »

Hello all,

Any info here would be great as I have not attempted to set up IP networking yet and would like it to go as smoothly as possible.

I have the Enviromon equipment set up and working in a classroom on the other side of town, using my HP laptop for weekly checks with no problem. I will shortly have to present the data via live feed over the internet from the class to my laptop for an exhibition.

Problem - I have to use an in class MAC computer hooked up to a LAN network as the server (as stated in :"ip networking for remote data logging" on the site here)

I have yet to install the Enviromon software onto this MAC computer and from reading the ip networking article am not sure how to initiate the process of ip networking on the MAC as Windows are the only stated computer instructions.

QUESTION: What problems, if any will I have using the MAC computer as a server??

QUESTION: Will i have to have both computers (inclass MAC and my laptop) open in front of me to initiate the whole ip networking process or can it be done simply seperately by following the steps as stated.

Sorry if this is a repost, done searches but didn't find exactly what information I required.

Regards, George

HI George,

When you say a MAC computer what operating system are you running?

Please find attached documents describing how to do the TCP/IP connection for enviromon. You will need 2 computers on set up as a server and the other as a client.

Kind regards

Hello ziko,

The Mac computer I have to use as the server is running MAC OS X, never before have I used this hardware so its a bit daunting.

I secured the ip address, subnet mask and router information so i'm going to follow the instructions as best i can and see how far that gets me.
