Vertical Resolution of PicoScope 2203

Post by evsc »

I am wondering about the vertical resolution of the PicoScope 2203. The product info says the scope reads the value with a resolution of 8 bits (or 12 bits enhanced) here: http://www.picotech.com/picoscope2000.html

But the driver normalizes those readings to 16bits.

When i look at the values i receive via the faststreaming-callback function, they are between -32767 and 32767, which is all fine. Also the values seem to be scaled from a lower resolution (8bit) to the higher (16bit), as they are not continuous but make big jumps between measurements. So it all would make sense if those distances between the measurements would equal 256, as that would explain the scaling from 8bit to 16bit. But my values jump with steps of 293/294.

Is there a logical explanation to that (or just an error in my coding) ?

The device uses some scaling to compensate for analogue offset and gain variations between devices. The 16 bit range is your full voltage range and the adc counts are mapped onto this full range.
