PicoScope 3424 Oscilloscope Specifications Max Input voltage

Post by Mikegr »

Can you clarify maximum input voltage (AC). It appears that the maximum normal operating voltage range is + or - 20V with the input protected at 100V. If our probe is 10 to 1 that would be 40 V at device input with 400V at the measurement point.

On the 3424, the maximum readable DC or peak AC direct input is +/- 20Volts . The scope is protected to +/-100V.
With a 10:1 probe, the readable input rises to +/-200V and the maximum voltage is +/-600V (the probe rating). An AC signal of +/-200V (peak to peak) equates to about 141V AC. This does not mean it is legal to measure 120V AC mains voltages, only AC voltages isolated from direct mains connection by an isolating transformer since the earth lead of the probe is held at PC ground.

If the scope has +/-20V capability with a x10 probe why should it not be able to reach 120Vac mains voltage reading?

Thanks for the clarification!
