ADC-212 - USB Parallel Port

Post by Pedro Bertoleti »

Hi there.
I´ve an ADC-212 and I wanna connect it in my notebook (it doesn´t have any parallel port). I think the only way to do it is using a USB Parallel Port converter.
I found a converter like this at http://www.picotech.com/usb_parallel_port.html
But it´s no longer avaliable. Are there another way to connect my ADC-212 in my notebook? Is there really no places that I can but a converter like this: http://www.picotech.com/usb_parallel_port.html ?

Att.

Hi,
We know that a lot of customers are having difficulty now that parallel ports are disappearing from PCs & Laptops. We think we have found solutions, available shortly, using various adapters (PCI, PCI-Express for Desktops & PCMCIA/Cardbus for laptops) but as yet we have not found a solution using USB to parallel converters. Watch this thread for news!

Hi,
Just to bring everything up to date, if you are running version R5.21.0 (or later) of PicoLog or PicoScope5, then most plug-in, PCI, PCI-Express & PCMCIA (Cardbus) parallel adapter cards will now work with our parallel port products. When using an adapter card with a laptop, the card has to be inserted in the laptop slot before boot in order to be recognised by our software.
If R5.21.0 is installed, then the ADC-212 scope can also be used running under PicoScope6 (automotive only) with an adapter card.
At present, it is still the situation that no USB to Parallel card will work with our parallel port devices.

Hi,
Please use PicoFull R5.21.1 available from here:-
http://www.picotech.com/software.html
When installing, please also tick the box for "Install for other devices" as well as selecting the ADC-212 as your device.
In PicoScope5, or PicoLog be sure to select USB PP1 instead of LPT1 as the port.
For the ADC-212, (with or without the USB converter) you can also use PicoScope6 Automotive:-
http://www.picoauto.com/software.html#picoscope6
If you still have problems please contact us on Helpdesk:-
support@picotech.com

Hi

I have an ADC212 and want to use it with my HP tx2627cl (ExpressCard) laptop. I notice that some ExpressCard parallel adapters (e.g. the Koutech IO-ECP120) reportedly fail to present as a proper parallel port to PC oscilloscopes. Would you please list some ExpressCard parallel adapters which will actually work with the ADC 212 and your software?

Regards,
Doc Pete

Hi,
We have had to stop manufacturing our own brand USB to parallel converter because an essential integrated circuit is no longer available. No other USB to parallel adapter from another manufacturer will work with our devices. So far, we have only been able to to get our parallel products working using plug-in PCI or PCI-Express cards in desktop PCs and PCMCIA cards in laptops.
You will need to use Windows XP or later & you should be using the latest version of PicoScope5/PicoLog, R5.21.1, available here on our website:-
http://www.picotech.com/software.html
This latest version of PicoScope5/PicoLog should, work with most PCI, PCI express & Cardbus (PCMCIA) parallel port cards.
Does your laptop have an Express card slot?
http://www.delock.com/produkte/gruppen/ ... 66220.html
or a PCMCIA card slot?
http://www.delock.com/produkte/gruppen/ ... 61612.html
You have to have the card plugged in when the laptop starts.
(The cards above are just for illustration, and although they work, they are just some of many available.)

PeterF.

Hi

Thanks so much for your prompt response. The Delock adapter looks fine, but is not easily available in the US. Are you aware of a suitable Expresscard parallel adapter available in the US?

Hi,
I am afraid that there are many more cards about than we can sensibly test! As far as we can tell, most cards work fine. Please let us know of ones that do or do not work.

Hi

I purchased a StarTech EC1PECPS ExpressCard IEEE 1284 parallel adapter and it works perfectly.

Hi,

I have a Dell laptop with docking station; it has a parallel port where I am connecting the ADC212-50.
Or is better to use an adapter directly inserted on express slot of the laptop?

Bye

Hi try the latest software with the docking station, if that does not work then you may need to get a card.

Kind regards
