Using my PicoScope as a logic analyzer

Post by richarno »

Hi,

I have a PicoScope, and I would like to know if I can use it as a logic analyzer: I have to debug some I2C protocol issues, and I would like to have the PicoCsope analyze mu I2C bus, possibly reconstructing the frames with start/stop bits etc.

Does anybody know if this is possible?

Thanks,
Bruno

Hi Bruno,
this should be possible if you have a scope with 2 channels. Set the trigger on the clock-channel (falling edge) and start recoding the data. The I²C protocol is pretty easy to understand so its not to difficult to interpret the data by just looking at it.

If you are looking for software features that analyzes the data for you, I think you have to write your own software, which is quite a piece of work.

If you are looking for this feature to make use of it at the job you'd better buy a dedicated logic-analyzer. They usally come with software which already does what you are looking for.

We currently do not have I2C decoding in our software. As wayoda pointed out you would have to write your own software to do some decoding.
