Device not found

Post by picowit »

Hi all

New to the forum and new Picoscope user with a background in electronics (telecoms to more exact).

Got my Picoscope 4424 yesterday, started playing with it and first impressions, frankly (with no intent to knock the product), not exactly encouraging.

The CD I got had Picoscope 6.2.2.12 SW and that would just stop working for no apparent reason requiring shutting down the application. I quickly found that the trigger level voltage displayed at the bottom of the screen did not match the yellow diamond due to the 10 times probe. I see that this has been reported and fixed in 6.2.14 which does give hope.

Have already upgraded to 6.2.14 but I still get "Device not found etc" message when starting up Picoscope 6.2.14 even though the USB is plugged in and my PC (XP SP2) beeped at recognizing the USB device. I find that I have to close Picoscope, unplug the USB, plug it back in and then I might be lucky. 6.2.14 has at least not stopped working yet when I can get it to work.

Anything I can do to have a better success rate on starting Picoscope?
Best regards
Philip

More info on the frequent application "hang-ups" that I experience (screen dead stationary, "capturing" with moving blue bar in lower rh corner and LED off):

Sometimes, I am able to select Spectrum analyzer which would then work and if I then select Oscilloscope again, it would then work fine again.

Went to local supplier today for a swop-out unit with my PC but found the new unit behaved exactly the same.

Conclusion at this time is that something on my PC is not right but I would not know what. "System" shows enhanced USB drivers. Updating to XP SP3 FWIW.

I do find it hard to accept that my PC is the problem since it even hibernates 100% reliably and has been 100% stable ever since I bought it in 06.

Hi Philip I think I have been answering you via email. In any case I have another suggestion try using a USB 2.0 powered hub and see if this fixes your problem as I remember that you said your laptop, it may be the USB ports not pumping out enough juice.

Kind regards

Thanks Ziko

So far it looks like upgrading to XP SP3 worked for Picoscope (even though it broke internet access via my ADSL modem).

I no longer have the application freeze and it finds the hardware quite reliably now.
