Extended duration for Serial Decode logging

Post by delhusband »

Hi, is it possible to create an extended duration log file for serial decoded data?
I have a Picoscope 2204A.
Is there any way to export data continuously in real time to a file?
I'm decoding ASCII serial data on an RS485 network at 9600 Baud.
I only have 64 entries from all buffers which data rolls through as time progresses.
I seem to only be able to export the contents of all buffers at once.
I've used Actions Event:Buffer Full, Action(s): Save, Restart Capture. But this creates Multiple Files, and I'm a bit worried I might miss data in between save/restart.
I'm looking ideally to save data for about an hour

how fast is the data coming in, you can do something with triggers.

You can also use a raspberry or a Arduino to monitor / log serial data.
Unless you are looing for EMC errors or other type of corruption.

You may be able to set the scope to 200S/div to capture 33minutes of data or 500S/div to capture 1hr 20min, then decode and export this as a single file. You will need to set the memory to 200MS for a single capture as this is the maximum amount the serial decoder can work with in a single file.

You won't be able to see the decoded data live though, as the decode will only happen at the end of the collection period.

Alternatively you could increase the maximum number of waveforms from the default of 64, to a larger number to match the time frame you need.

Thanks both for the replies. I couldn't see how to access those options from my PicoScope 7.1.21 installation. I've installed PicoScope 6.14.69.6401, and I'll try recommendations.

Max waveforms can be increased by clicking on the Wveform button here

Here is a settings file that will run for 33mins with 200MSamples, you will need to use PicoScope 7 as we upped the limit to allow decoding of files with 200MSamples. PicoScope 6 will not be able to decode a file of this size.
