TC-08 Gives Reading With No Thermocouple

Using TC-08 to take temperature measurements using type k thermocouples.

When k thermocouple disconnected still get a measurement. This is I believe cold junction temperature and noise.

Is there anyway to test/check when taken measurement that it is actually using thermocouple?

There isn't I don't think. Best thing to do is force a temperature change on the probe tip and see if it reacts on PicoLog.
