Manjaro + PicoScope 2205A not working

Post by Rene Becker »

Hi, we just received a PicoScope 2205A and we're trying to get it to run on a Manjaro machine.

Installed software:
Picoscope 6.14.36_4r5676-1 from https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/picoscope
libps2000a 2.1.54_5r2438-1 from https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/libps2000a

However, PicoScope cannot find suitable devices (even after multiple restarts and clean installs, etc.).

dmesg shows:

Code: Select all

[ 67.877081] usb 3-2: new high-speed USB device number 5 using xhci_hcd
[ 68.019351] usb 3-2: New USB device found, idVendor=0ce9, idProduct=1007, bcdDevice= 0.05
[ 68.019362] usb 3-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=0
lsusb shows:

Similarly, PS7 doesn't work because it says that the 2000 series is not supported.

Anyone has any idea how to get it to work? Thanks!

The PicoScope 2205a uses the libps2000 library not the libps2000a

The not supported message from PS7 suggest you may be using the Automotive software so please try the PS7 Early Access Test and Measurement version from here

Thanks for your quick reply.

Using libps2000 gave the same results unfortunately. Shouldn't I see more information in dmesg?

Version 7 (that is not automotive) for Manjaro/Arch I cannot find. I tried using the .deb package, but didn't succeed. Are you planning to release for Manjaro/Arch as well or is that out of scope atm?

I have figured it out by now. I was using the (non-automotive) PS7 from the AUR, but it only started working after I added my user to the "pico" group. I found this info in the udev rules file.

However, PS6 still doesn't want to run, but we are happy with 7.

$usermod -a -G pico "username"
$sudo picoscope
Then it works. Maybe the first command is unnecessary.
