Picoscope timebase

Post by tratk »

Hi.
I have a question regarding timebases for picoscope 6000A series and 4000A series. In the programing guide it says that you can select the timebase based on the sampling interval you want.
The sample interval formula is 2^timebase / 5 000 000 000 for timebase = 0-4 and (timebase–4) / 156 250 000 for timebase > 4.

Does that formula stay the same no matter how many channels you have enabled? In the data sheet it says that the maximum sampling rate for 8 channels is 625MS/s (10 bit mode). So if you have 8 channels do you limit the timebase to timebase => 3 (sampling rate = 3.6ns) or does the formula change to something like 2^timebase / 625 000 000 (and 156 250 000 corresponds to what in this case)?

Similarly for 4000A do you limit the timebse for more than 4 channels to timebase => 1 or does the formula change?

Thanks in advance
Tomaž

The timebase equations are the same regardless of channels used. As you guessed, what's limited is the minimum timebase.
