DC transformer measurment with Picoscope

Post by Mr.Price »

Hello all,

I'm very new to this and I was hoping someone could help me.
Our stationary oscilloscope died and I was asked to look into a new one.
My preference goes to a picoscope package.

Our usage is: Measure AC and DC currents (on powersupplies and welding transformers) and I have no idea if it is possible with picosope in combination with Rogowski coils.

If someone could give me the basic parameters and or even tell me it is possible to use a Picoscope with Rogowski coil, that would be much appriciated.

Looking forward to some replies.

you mean something like this ?

https://www.picotech.com/accessories/cu ... -probe-bnc

then yes what is the max current you want to measure (AC or DC)

Hello Benno,

Thank you for your reply.
I have Rogowski coils for current measurements.
Our maximum current will be 45-50kA (secundary on DC transformer)

I'm not planning to buy different coils, so I want to find out first if I can use the Picoscope with Rogowski coil combination before I invest in different coils.

Rogowski coil is not a brand but a type of measurement device.
So without knowing what type of output voltage and connector your coils have it is hard to tell.

As I google for it most of them have output voltages of 1-5 V and some have eve BNC output connectors.
If this is also the situation with your coils then there would be no problem.

I work with high voltage transformers where 0-160kV output is signaled with a 0-10V feedback signal.
In pico scope you can configure a custom probe that 10V on the input is shown as 160kV on the display.

This can also be done with current 0-10V to scope displayed as 0-33mA on the scope.
