Picoscope 7 fails to load on Ubuntu 20.04 when locale is not set to "C"

Post by ericb »

Hi,
Its been a couple of times that I tried picoscope 7 on Linux. Every time it fails to load. My configuration is a relatively fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04. I have no particular problem with picoscope 6 !
My computer is configured for French.

Now here is the good news : after tinkering for a while, I found that selecting the locale to default to "C" in command line solves the problem. Therefore, the problem lies (probably) in the mismanagement of locale-related subtleties (e.g. "," instead of "." in real numbers and so forth).

Just issue
LC_ALL="C" /usr/bin/picoscope
in a terminal. It will launch a usable picoscope 7.
Without that, I have the following screen - see attachement

Hope that helps.
Regards,
Eric Bechet
