Measuring a PWM signal. How?

Post by Doon1 »

I'm sure this is very basic. I've used a Picoscope for some time with the automotive software. But I've bought a 2204a because the company's 4425a is shared between 23 different locations across the country. . Makes it hard to get a hold of sometimes. I plan on learning how to use the scope but need to run the test that prompted me to buy it in the first place.
I need to measure a PWM signal on a vehicle (Peterbilt truck) to compare it to the % number that is being read from the PID date output over the J1939 E-CAN network. It's either a 12 or 5 volt signal (probably 12). what should I use as a trigger? I need to see the whole on/off cycle to calculate the on time of the signal.
Thanks for any guidance you may offer. I promise to learn this thing over the coming months... :D

Hi Doon1,

Sorry for the long delay in answering. I have been off work for different reasons, and only just caught up with a heavy workload, and backlog of Helpdesk tickets.

You would probably be more likely to get an answer from someone who is more familiar with this, on our Automotive Forum https://www.picoauto.com/support/.

Regards,
