Measuring digigal signals on MSO

Post by pev »

Heya,

I've got a 2205MSO which I've mostly used to date as an analogue scope. Im wanting however to do some profiling of a micro where I'm using 16 gpio's to instrument scheduler operation and I need to measure the period / frequency of the outputs. This was trivial on the analog side but I'm scratching my head over how to do this for the logic inputs and I cant find anything in the help. Am I being a total imbecile?!

Thanks!

Hi Pev,

No you're not, the answer is easy only if you're familiar with the tool (and the Digital Channels are not accessible in the Standard Measurements menu).

So, you can use the Time rulers to measure the period of the digital waveform by clicking and dragging the small white squares (there are 2 at he bottom left of the graph) to place on the appropriate edges of the waveform to give you a period measurement in the Measurement Window at the top of the graph, which will also give you a frequency measurement in the 1/period Window at the bottom right of the graph (see the screen shot below).

Alternatively, if you want a more automatic method, you can use Deep Measure (at the bottom of the 'Measurements' Menu) to give you the frequency value directly).

Gerry is correct about Deep Measure but it is not available for the 2205 MSO, but what you can do is use Tools->Math Channels and create a Math channel that is a copy of the digital channel, then the measurements will work on the Math channel.

This will be addressed in PicoScope 7.
