Picolog 1216 input displaying incorrectly

Post by Robert_RWEUK »

Hi

We have a picolog 1216 which monitors various inputs from a treatment plant. It has the extension terminal board attached.

Recently we have noticed that a couple of the channels have started producing erroneous data.

For instance, we have three channels monitoring a simple on/off contact on pumps - we use the onboard reference voltage to generate the voltage, so we should get a reading of 2v on, and 0v off. That works fine on two of the channels, but one channel has started suddenly dropping to 1v. We have tested the voltage on that pin and it is definitely 2v. Rebooting the picolog resolves the issue temporarily.

Similarly, we measure a pressure sensor on 0-10mV sensor, and use equation to change this to a Bar reading. On occasion, the pressure read out on the display drops from 3.2Bar to 0 bar instantaneously, and checking the pressure manually shows no drop in pressure, and the expected mV reading at the input pin. Rebooting the picolog resolves the problem temporarily.

When these errors occur, on the pump input and 0-10mV input, they always happen simultaneously.

The software is on a raspberry pi, picolog is PL1000 Linux Driver, 2.0.54.2438, and it is set to update automatically, currently on 6.1.18.

The fact that it corrects itself when the datalogger is restarted leads me to thinking it is a datalogger problem, rather than a pi issue.

Interestingly enough, stopping the recording this morning and restarting the recording also seem to reset the values - again making me think this is not a physical input issue, but something going wrong with the software?

Any help appreciated.

It hasnt been recording correctly for about two weeks, while we have beem checking the cabling etc.

Hi Robert,

Could you post an image of how everything is connected up. Could you also post a picolog data file showing the issue.

Could you explain in more detail about the effects of restarting the software (what do you mean by resetting the values, i.e. do you mean that inputs that weren't recording values, suddenly restarted recording values, or do you mean something else)?

One thing with the Terminal Board for the PicoLog 1000 data loggers is that, if it isn't secure in the socket for the D-type connector or if it get's somehow moved, then you could experience connection problems (which could also explain simultaneous errors).

Regards,
