How to connect LVDTs to ADC24

Post by DMMA-PICO »

Hi, I bought a ADC-24 Logger recently. I need to log outputs from several Dc/DC LVDTs and several DC variable voltages. What I am not sure is how to connect LVDT DC out puts; are they single ended or differential. I know DC voltage outputs can be logged as single ended. Not sure about LVDTs. They have only 4 wires (2 supply and 2 signal). Please advice.

Hi MMA-PICO,

LVDTs can be Bipolar (if that's what you mean by differential) because the displacement can be in either direction, or they could be Unipolar. However, the connection is Single Ended (so you only use one Single Ended input for it, instead of using 2 Single Ended inputs to make one Differential input). Have a look on pages 3 & 5 of the ADC 20/24 Terminal Board User Guide here: https://www.picotech.com/download/manua ... -guide.pdf.

The Spec for the LVDT should tell you if it's Bipolar or Unipolar.
